During the Summer of 06′, Sigur Ros was wrapping up a world tour for their highly-praised fourth album entitled ‘Takk’. Having played some of the globes most famous venues, before hundreds of thousands of music aficionados, returning to their homeland would bring them back to the humble reality of Icelandic solitude. To surprise their native land and to mark their return, Sigur Ros announced seven secret shows. They kicked it off with a huge Reykjavik homecoming show in front of one tenth of the countries population. They documented this once in a lifetime event bringing in Oscar-nominated director Dean DeBlois to make the film.
Ill Rated was allowed a special engagement to preview, ‘Heima’ Icelandic term for “Homeland” in its entirety. I must honestly report that it was as if watching a musical masterpiece unfold before my very eyes. No words can describe how absolutely “Ill” this film was! For some God knows reason that you are not familiar with Sigur Ros, pick up this film and you will soon understand life in an entirely different frame of mind. Sigur Ros has always created music that is my escape rout when life gets overwhelming and the shit hits the fan. Jnsi Birgisson sings in his native tongue and Hopelandic, a nonsense language, so don’t think you’ll understand what his songs are about neither.
The film’s U.S. release is set for November 5th (DVD).
